LEAD TEACHER

LEAD TEACHER
Pay rate is hourly, and varies depending upon experience, education and training, and other qualifications. Qualifications
Professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of early childhood education or development; meeting the requirements of the licensing agency. A sensitive, mature individual who relates well to children and adults. All persons serving in the role of ECEAP lead teacher must meet one of the following qualifications:
Educational Requirement
- a degree (Associates or above) in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or equivalent, with the equivalent of 30 college quarter credits, OR
- a CDA (Child Development Associate) Credential with at least one year of experience working in a regulated child care/preschool facility including at least six months of experience working at Child’s Day, OR
- at least 12 college credit hours in Child Development and/or Early Childhood Education with at least one year of experience working in a regulated child care/preschool facility including at least six months of experience working at TTDC, OR
- A valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade 3) or Early Childhood Special Education.
Must be at least eighteen years of age, in the process of becoming professionally prepared to be a teacher of young children, and meet the requirements of the licensing agency. Must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Center's program and philosophy. In accordance with the ADA and TTDC policy of non-discrimination and the principle of equal opportunity, decisions to hire persons with disabilities will be made on a case-by-case basis within the framework of essential job-related functions.
Criminal Background Check
Employment or volunteer service at TTDC is conditioned on a criminal background check as required by child care licensing and TTDC policies. The 60 categories of criminal convictions or pending charges disqualifying a person from having access to children in child care are in WAC 388-330-040.
General Responsibilities
Lead Teachers will do the following:
- Observe and assess children’s development
- Plan early learning experiences, with parent input based on child development knowledge and maintain knowledge of lesson plans and emergent learning experiences
- Design the learning environment
- Implement and supervise developmentally appropriate learning activities.
- Plan guidance strategies for children
- Involve parents in the education of their child
- Maintain child’s records and data information on CCNet, a proprietary computer-based record keeping system used by the City of Seattle Human Services Department
- Conduct parent teacher conferences and document information
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of TTDC.
- Gear the program to the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, handicaps, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
- Consider individual children in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background.
- Treat children with dignity and respect.
- Plan and implement appropriate early childhood education experiences with a variety of materials in the fields of art, music, literature, science, etc.
- Supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child enrolled at the Center.
- Supervise upkeep of all educational equipment and materials in assigned area.
- Eat all meals with the children and encourage development of sound nutritional practices.
- Help children to become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
- Maintain progress records of each child's growth and development, prepare periodic reports, and review with Director and parents.
- Work with parents to promote understanding of their child's growth and development; encourage parent participation in school programs; attend parent group and Center functions; conduct conferences on request.
- Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom and its learning centers.
- Assume an equal share of the joint cleaning responsibilities for their classroom.
- Attend all staff meetings. Plan and implement one staff training meeting each school year.
- Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth, maintaining current knowledge of early childhood practice.
- Effectively train, supervise, and utilize classroom assistants and primary floaters.
- Conduct parent conferences on each child's school adjustment, classroom behavior, and developmental progress.
- Plan and implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents. Communicate frequently with parents informally, with periodic notes and verbal communication as well as a Parent Letter if needed.
- Assist in public-relations events sponsored by the school.
- Supervise all activities to ensure safety at all times.
- Prepare daily attendance report for children in assigned group.
- Help children establish good habits of personal hygiene; change diapers and assist with toilet training as needed.
- Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the Center at all times.
- Participate in professional organizations that work for the improvement of early childhood education.

- Complete and submit accurate progress reports on children within your care with consistency and regularity
- Monitor and document children’s milestones, and progress using effective, appropriate evaluation and frequent recording procedures.

D. Collaboration:
- Maintain regular work schedule as determined by direct supervisor
- Assume other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Provide guidance and instruction to Assistant Teachers working within your direct supervision
- Work to ensure the success of family plan as identified by case-management
- Work cooperatively as a member of a team, and assume responsibilities as determined necessary for the benefit of children in the program
- Support and assist other staff members

ASSISTANT TEACHER

A person selected for this position
will be responsible for assisting a classroom Lead Teacher with educational
services, general supervision and management of a class of children. Reports to
classroom Lead Teacher.
Qualifications
Must be at least eighteen years of
age, in the process of becoming professionally prepared to be a teacher of
young children, and meet the requirements of the licensing agency. Must have a
warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of
others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill
responsibilities in accordance with the Center's program and philosophy. In
accordance with the ADA
and TTDC policy of non-discrimination and the principle of equal opportunity,
decisions to hire persons with disabilities will be made on a case-by-case
basis within the framework of essential job-related functions. An Assistant
Teacher demonstrates competency to implement program activities under the
direction of a lead teacher.
Minimum
Educational Requirement
High
school diploma or GED. One year related education (early childhood education,
etc.) is highly desirable. STARS training is highly desirable. All persons serving in the role of ECEAP
Assistant Teacher must meet one of
the following qualifications:
Employment as
an ECEAP assistant teacher in the same agency before July 1,1999.
The equivalent
of 12 college quarter credits in early childhood education.
A current
Child Development (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood
Professional Recognition.

CLASSROOM AIDE

A person selected for this position will be responsible for assisting a classroom Lead Teacher with the general supervision and management of a class of children. Reports to classroom Lead Teacher and Assistant Teacher.
Qualifications

Must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Center's program and philosophy. Because this is an on-call position, it is important that you have a flexible daytime schedule and your own, reliable transportation.
Minimum Educational Requirement
High school diploma or GED. One year related education (early childhood education, etc.) is highly desirable. STARS training is highly desirable.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Classroom Aides will work at different TTDC sites and classroom on an on-call, as needed basis. You may assist a Lead Teacher at more than one location during the week, and will need to move from one classroom or childcare site to another as requested, often within the course of a single day. Reliable transportation is an important for this reason.
Responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the Lead Teacher.
- Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
- Read books to entire classes or to small groups. Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips. Attend to children's basic needs by feeding them, dressing them, and changing their diapers.
- Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and discuss them with supervisors, parents or guardians, and child development specialists.
- Supervise the classroom when the Lead Teacher is out of the room.
- Help with the general classroom cleaning tasks.
- Assist the Lead and Assistant Teachers in other ways as requested.
- Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the Center at all times.
- Treat all children with dignity and respect.
- Attend all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences.
